Replicating An image

Our task is to replicate a picture from the internet and try to get it as similar as possible.

I had a couple of images to look at and was inspired by Rankin  because of the variety of portraits he creates.

Whilst I was photographing sammy, Jordon was taking photos of me at the time. ( shown Below)

This was the original Image.^
We started off by going on Adjustments> Curves.
we planned to have the background as light as we could to match the original photo.

We made another layer so that we could rub out the face so it was not as pale as the background.

this softened the picture.

After this we got the spot healing brush and took away a few of the moles on the image because the original picture didn't have any.

we then cleaned up the makeup above her eye to give her more of a clean look. if i was to do this again i would take the picture of sammy from a closer but different angle. I think i captured a few of the pieces of hair well but not perfectly. I chose not to do the hair on the other side of her because it didn't look as similar to the other image and wasn't curled enough. so it didn't give it a proper look to it.

Todays Task.

Todays task was sent out for us to make our own Hand coloured pictures.

We were sent outside to take a picture of a person as a straight up body shot. We were sent to take the picture infront of a wall so that the background would be suitable rather than a plain white background.

I decided to take my picture infront of a pub window because the interior around the edge look quite old so it thought this gave a nice effect.

If i was to do this again i would get Emily to stand infront of a sign or something, maybe not a wall just to be different than everyone else.

This is my second image I experimented on. I chose to do the background black as it would make the image of Emily stand out more. I started with a pastel dark pink when I added it to the black. I then chose to keep the colours quite dark as i thought this gave a positive effect on the picture. If i was to finish this off I would slightly darken the white on her top to mix in with the other colours used.
This is the outcome of my first picture i hand painted, I decided to change the background to red and a gold look because I think the colours gives it a royal look.

I decided to keep the scarf the same colour and the skin to make the black and white look effective.

This is the image in black and white before the editing.

Hand painting Research.

Hand-colouring is the method of manually adding colour to a black-and-white photograph, generally either to heighten the realism of the photograph or for artistic purposes. Hand-colouring is also known as hand painting or ''overpainting''
Typically, watercolours, oils, crayons or pastels, and other paints or dyes are applied to the image surface using brushes, fingers, cotton swabs or airbrushes. Hand-coloured photographs were most popular in the mid to late 19th century before the invention of colour photography, and some firms specialized in producing hand-coloured photographs.
